tour to Brasil
Hello pilots, Registration for Point of the Mountain Paragliding 2008 Brazil tour is now open. We will be running a ten day tour in Govenador Valadares (GV) Brazil. The tour is aimed on thermaling and flying cross country because Brazil such excellent potential for these types of flying . We will cover many aspects of paragliding including weather, thermaling, cross country decision making and gaggle flying with a group. Our goal is to fly together as a gaggle. We want to teach how to make good decisions and be safe when flying cross country. We follow three rules when flying in Brazil, work hard, have patience, and believe. We aspire to offer the highest caliber of instruction with one of USA’s top pilots and 2008 instructor of the year, in exotic flying locations. Brazil is known for its positive energy, friendly environment and some of the best flying on the planet! This year POMP instructor and US Team Pilot Brad Gunnuscio will host the tour. Brad has been to GV several times and have a great understanding of the language and the site. He will be offering instructional tandem flights to tour participants as well. The price of our tour is $1800. This includes five star hotel accommodations including breakfast, air to air cross country instruction, and air conditioned retrieval. You will need to purchase your flight down to Brazil and GV and cover all your meals except breakfast. The exchange rate is good, and your US dollar will go a long way in Brazil. Brazil Tour Dates March 29th to April 5th for the short tour and to the 9th for those who can stay longer! Participants should plan on arriving in Belo Horizonte late morning or early afternoon March 29th. We want everyone to arrive as early as possible so that we can all meet and travel from Belo Horizonte to Governador Valadares together. There are three flights leaving Belo to GV in the afternoon, 2:30pm, 4:50pm, and 6:00pm. We will need to book these flights for you since they only speak Portuguese at Total Air. There is a 50lb limit per bag on Total Air. We will need $210 per person in order to book this part of your airfare; you can include this in the cost of your tour check. Please get us your flight information as soon as you book your ticket so we can get you confirmed on one of the three flights we mentioned above. You will need to book a flight out of Belo as late as possible on the 5th of April (for the short tour) or the 9th (for the long one), while still giving yourself plenty of time to make your connecting flight home from Rio or Sao Paola. We recommend trying to get on one of the first two flights. Flights home from Rio and Sao Paolo usually depart late in the evening. There are 4 possible departure times flying from GV to Belo: Dep8:15am - Arr8:55am, Dep9:50am - Arr10:30, Dep3:25 - Arr4:30, Dep4:35 - Arr5:35. There are two airports in Belo. Everyone will arrive at the international airport, and we will be waiting for all pilots to arrive and plan on meeting outside the airport at the bank of Brazil. We will take taxis to the domestic airport together which is 30 minutes away. We fly out of the domestic airport in Belo and arrive in GV for dinner. A visa is required when traveling to Brazil so you will need to send your passport to an agency. We have used www.visaexpress.net in the past. They can take care of stamping your passport with a Visa. It takes about 7 business days and cost about $130. It’s very important to get this done immediately. Please don't wait to send in your passport. Realize you need your flight itinerary in order to get your visa. The hotel is 10 minutes from the GV airport. Once we arrive at the hotel you can get relax and get settled, take a swim, do some wireless, and rest up for the first day of flying. The following day we will walk the LZ's and familiarize you with the area. Each day we will review and debrief each flight, hoping to learn from our experiences. We will feast on tasty Brazilian cuisine after flying, and enjoy the lively night life GV has to offer. We will help arrange booking your domestic flights as soon as everyone has purchased there international flights. You will need to email your itinerary to brad@pointofthemountainparagliding.com so he can begin booking your connecting domestic flights. We have already sold half the space on this tour.
